Industrial reverse osmosis (RO) systems are a critical component of desalination plants, ensuring a steady supply of freshwater. Their maintenance often relies on systems that collect data only once a day, or even less and typically from limited points, such as the end of the pressure vessel, leaving potential performance issues undetected in real-time.
Imagine if we only checked the security cameras around our house once a week, or just monitored the front door—how much could go unnoticed?
Similarly, if RO membrane maintenance relies only on occasional or manual checks, we risk missing early signs of issues.
SWICSSY, an advanced submerged wireless conductivity sensor system, is designed to change the game. By continuously monitoring water conductivity and temperature inside the permeate tube of an 8-inch RO membrane, it delivers real-time data on membrane performance, empowering operators with knowledge to optimize maintenance, reduce downtime, and improve operational efficiency.

HOW SWICSSY WORKS?
SWICSSY is an end-to-end solution comprising of three main parts:

1. SENSOR INNER PART (SIP)
A compact yet powerful sensor specially designed to fit inside the permeate tube of an 8-inch RO membrane, without any
modifications on RO membranes or PVs.
SIP measures key parameters essential for RO system performance:
Conductivity (µS/cm @ 25°C)
Temperature (°C)

The SIP is powered wirelessly using resonant inductive coupling, eliminating the need for battery or invasive installations.
2. SENSOR OUTER PART (SOP)
This module wirelessly powers and communicates with the SIP and collects real-time data, transmitting it to the Stack node via CAN bus.
3. STACK NODE (SN)
The Stack Node serves as the control hub for the system. It performs multiple roles:
Powers and manages all SOPs in a single rack of pressure vessels.
Collects and stores sensor data locally in CSV format for detailed reporting.
Integrates with plant SCADA systems and is configurable for different measuring intervals, with a minimum period of just 1 minute.
For real-time data visualization, SWICSSY integrates seamlessly with Grafana or other user-preferred tools, enabling operators to monitor performance through customizable dashboards.
SWICSSY's ADVANTAGES IN RO MEMBRANE
MAINTENANCE
COMPREHENSIVE COVERAGE
Traditional RO membrane maintenance typically relies on external sensors or data collected only at the end of the pressure vessel. This approach can leave critical performance gaps, missing early signs of membrane degradation through all PV. SWICSSY’s inner sensor is strategically placed inside the permeate tube of the RO membrane (beginning, end) providing localized, real-time data directly from the source. This direct measurement allows operators to detect performance deviations immediately, ensuring issues are addressed before they escalate and reduce the overall efficiency of the system.

EARLY DETECTION OF ISSUES
SWICSSY can identify:
Unexpected change in conductivity levels,
Temperature fluctuations.
By providing insight to RO operations in real time, it empowers operators to address problems before they disrupt operations.
CUSTOMIZABLE MONITORING PERIODS
Unlike traditional systems or manual data acquisition that normally collect data once per day, SWICSSY allows plant operators to customize the monitoring period to their specific needs. Measurements can be taken as frequently as every minute, enabling unparalleled control over the system.
REDUCED ENERGY AND MAINTENANCE COSTS
By targeting specific areas for maintenance, SWICSSY reduces unnecessary system-wide interventions. This saves energy, minimizes labor requirements, and helps avoid unplanned downtime and costly repairs, offering significant cost-saving benefits for desalination plants.
